Tippu (singer)

Biography

Tippu was born as Ekambaresh in Ponmalai, Trichy to Tamil people S. Lakshmi Narayanan and M. K. Meenakshi.[1] He has two siblings, an elder sister Gayathri and a younger brother Shamkumar.[1] Tippu did his schooling at the Kamaraj Matric School, Old Washermenpet and the St. John's Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Alwarthirunagar, Tamilnadu.
Tippu is married to playback singer Harini. He has two children, a girl named Sai Smruti and a boy, Sai Prathyankar. He has sung 150 songs for Illayaraja and many songs for DSP and Harris Jayaraj. He is very famous for Voice modulation and Articulated rendition in all languages.

He is often the first choice to sing dance or jazzy songs to be picturised on popular Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar. His song Yavanig gottu from the movie Paramathma has become an instant hit.

Awards

Tippu was awarded the Kalaimamani by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2007.[3] He has received two nominations for the Best Male Playback Singer prize in Tamil and Kannada at the 57th and the 58th Filmfare Awards South, respectively. In 2010, he won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song "Hey Paro" from the film Raaj the Showman.[4]
